Bulls By The Horns fills in with the details on both Rose and Deng: Deng came back on Saturday night, played 41 minutes, and then practiced Sunday.
Said Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau: "He said he felt fine. He was good in practice. We’re encouraged by that."
Thibs is answering questions because Deng is not. Luol said he doesn’t want to keep talking about the injury. And, really, what’s the point? It hurts. He can play through it. And it probably won’t get better until after the season when he has time for it to fully heal (possibly after surgery).
I get Luol's stance not wanting to keep taking about it, but I also don't want to hear Thibs either, really. He (and Skiles was like this too) doesn't like talking about injuries, and treats everyone as a pass/fail grade. If you can play, you play to the fullest extent.
I didn't see Saturday's game, so I don't want to just say 41 minutes + 23-point win = bad. But looking at the gameflow, it seemed pretty unnecessary.
But now I suppose it's time to add me to those who also want to stop talking about it*. Thibs is a great coach, but he's wrong here, hope it doesn't come back to haunt them (and you couldn't prove causality if it did), and that's that.
(*Note by your friendly BullsBlogger, 02/06/12 11:47 AM CST] apparently that got some major confusion in the comments: I basically meant I'll try not to consistently say it's dumb and will potentially harm the Bulls since Thibs and Luol are cool with it, and Pax isn't choking anyone yet, so it's not going to change. But as an official stance I'll leave myself open to talk about it, as to not endure such a potential backlash towards a broken promise, yeesh)
(and for Rose, seems fine, just being an NBA guard and all)

If you want to stop talking about it,
why post it on the front page?
Tim S. - February 6, 2012
It's a process.
jpx7 - February 6, 2012
Affirmation
bryield - February 6, 2012
well, AFTER this
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
Hey, can you do one of these "Let's just stop talking about it" posts on Boozer?
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
Whatever you do
do not read the new “Making a Play for Pau” fanpost.
bryield - February 6, 2012
well, if Luol gets hurt again in a blowout win
then your theory that Boozer’s shit play isn’t costing the Bulls a title will be right. So keep chasing that rainbow.
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
It's not like I've said Boozer is great
And my “theory” would be correct no matter what, unless you tell me who the Bulls could have gotten instead of Boozer. Unless you think his mere presence is hurting the team…
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
I think he needs to play better, you don't.
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
Wrong, I don't think he can play better, and a lot of people do
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
Talking about how you don't want to talk about it,
is sometimes even more fun than actually talking about it.

OT: uh-oh, revenge of the Bogans?!!

OMG!!
it’s a slap in the face that they replaced me with someone way better than me! i can’t believe it!
Jaina - February 6, 2012
LOL
This is all kinda silly. He is a role player. This is something you just have to get used to.
That said, I would love me some Keith Bogans right about now with all the injuries. Not saying I would rather have him start than Brewer, but having him on the bench to come in might have been nice. Although, I guess Jimmy has done well so meh.
DRoseO1 - February 6, 2012
A little extra from Bogans is what?
4 points, 2 rebounds and 3 fouls?
jpm356 - February 6, 2012
add 2 more points
and it was always a guaranteed win!
coke - February 6, 2012
i kind of feel bad for him.
obnoxious american - February 6, 2012
I do too
Hated that he was our starter, but he seemed like a good guy, and a great teammate. Has to be a shitty feeling to get the boot like that when you love the people you play with. Although I’m kinda surprised his agent didn’t have him more prepared. I mean, his departure didn’t exactly come as a surprise
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
yeah i mean he, like taj w/ the tyrus stuff
was put in a shitty position of being the object of hate due to circumstances beyond his control. but still… i mean. it wasn’t a secret that the bulls were updating the sg position…
Jaina - February 6, 2012
taj has to feel pretty vindicated, considering how tyrus...is, now.
obnoxious american - February 6, 2012
Taj was better than Tyrus then...
But, some fans mistake potential for actual production…I, for one, liked that Tyrus was more jumpy.
Dionysus2.0 - February 6, 2012
it's pretty arguable that taj was better then
tyrus only played 4 games before he got hurt – but most of his averages in chicago that season are better than taj’s. people didn’t like that he was benched because he never got a chance to redeem himself… an injury shouldn’t be a ticket to the bench.
but yeah… it sucks what tyrus has turned into.
Jaina - February 6, 2012
The Tyrus and Taj thing
Was almost like the Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady thing
except at a much smaller scale…. :)
majoyenrac - February 6, 2012
It was never arguable that TT was better at anything but jumping
He had not idea what to do on a basketball court and still doesn’t. He refuses to embrace his role and still thinks he is a SF. I liked him as much as anyone but saying it was a debate between him and TT is SILLY.
BigforkBullsFan - February 6, 2012
between him and *TAJ
BigforkBullsFan - February 6, 2012
Well and scoring more effienctly
Passing
Certain defensive stats
Being exciting
tuluse - February 6, 2012
that season
tyrus had a 16.5 PER in chicago that season (and improved it to 17.1 after the trade), a feat taj has yet to reach (he had exactly that in just the playoffs last season).
he also:
and as tuluse says
had more steals, blocks, and assists (and their respective rate stats)
he may not have taj’s bball iq, but AT THE TIME (disregard what they’ve done since, because that’s not what this is about), he was certainly performing at least at taj’s level.
Jaina - February 6, 2012
I respect your opinions
But I can’t give u more than exciting. He did nothing efficiently and his blocking fetish cost the defense regularly when he left his man and the defense broke down. Not a good basketball player. Why can’t people get over that.
BigforkBullsFan - February 6, 2012 via mobile
We can, and we don't have to make things up to do it
tuluse - February 6, 2012
Use information to defend your statements then...
better passer? good luck
defensive stats? at the cost of team defense
being exciting? i already gave u that.
PER is flawed because because it can make you think someone like TT is better than someone like Taj. (and honestly I don’t think Taj is incredible or anything, just someone you can win a champ with on your roster while TT will never win anything.
BigforkBullsFan - February 6, 2012
You want me to use information to defend that fact that I think Taj is better?
I’m just saying we don’t have to shit on Tyrus to appreciate Taj.
tuluse - February 7, 2012
Yeah and hell probably be brought back next year and given one of those lifetime "Org guys" contracts
so he shouldn’t feel too bad
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
He's a good guy and it sucks that he was put through that
But he just isnt starter material. We have so many guards as it is…no room for poor ol Keith
Brigade17 - February 6, 2012
Yeah, I think the organization did not treat him very well.
First, I am not sure why they did not bring him back. He seems to be the kind of player that is cool in the locker room but pretty damn mean to opposing players. We need at least a few of those types. There may be cap issues for not taking him back or maybe they did not think that he could transition from starter to Scalabrine in one season. Maybe this was the only way that they could be 100% sure that Thibs did not start him this season.
If they did have to move him, they should have been more communicative about where he stood. I always liked Keith even though he was in a position to draw ire.
Also, as we are capped out, any contributing players we get from here on out will be in the form of vets taking a pay cut. If we do not want all of them to go to the Heat, it is probably a good idea not to throw veteran players under the bus (although the Heat have done this 3 times and are still drawing all of these charity cases).
THEKILLERWHALE - February 6, 2012
He was treated fine. He got paid and was starting even though he sucked.
He needs to let it go.
Playboy_BullV - February 6, 2012
Why? Because he was so underwhelming in his role that despite being an important piece of the Bulls' defense
And starting every single game from preseason to the ECF he couldn’t land a single FA offer? ?He should bitch to his agent, not the franchise that gave him the best season of his life.
Ozzie Montana - February 6, 2012
Well apparently he did bitch to his agent
and than fired him. I think this is why he is pissed
I mean, there are a lot of weighs to look at that. The Bulls were obviously looking out for their own interests and probably hurt Bogans in the process. The Bulls may have done everything ethically and fine – but if this happened to anyone, they’d be pissed.
Basketball Smurf - February 6, 2012
Well that makes more sense, though the Bulls must have been crazy to think they could have gotten a draft pick for Bogans.
Ozzie Montana - February 6, 2012
hence the 'kind of'
and if i ever say i feel bad for any high paid athlete i’m speaking in extremely relative terms. the only reason i have any sympathy for him in this case is how he felt like the team was family and it sucks to have that pulled out from under you. it’s too bad he couldn’t be the third stringer now, obviously he should never had started.
obnoxious american - February 6, 2012
I don't
He got to play and start in the ECF when he arguably could have been in the D-League. Hell feel sorry for Steve Nash wasting away in Phoenix or Brandon Roy’s career ending in his 20s
Dils - February 6, 2012
i really feel sorry for roy,,,
he had such good potential and it sucks to see good players like him get injured.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012

lol
Am i the only thinking that hes talking about his shooting release?
piccolomair - February 6, 2012
it does sound like hes talking about his shooting release from a comical standpoint, haha.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
I just have bad thoughts when someone tries to strip deng and slaps down hard on his wrist
Im looking at you Zasa….
Trey23 - February 6, 2012
its going to hurt at time, but remember, the injury cant get any worse (according to the bulls docs)
sp, w/e he felt when he fall on the floor in the 4th Q is the worse kind of pain hes going to feel (knock on wood)
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
About Deng's minutes,
his minutes per game averages before Thibs got here were 27, 33, 37.5, 33.5, 34 and then 38. Under Thibs, Deng has played 39 and 38.5 minutes per game and hasn’t missed any time due to minutes related injuries.
I’m not gonna get all upset about an extra minute or two per game. Does anyone really think that a couple minutes per game is gonna do damage to a world-class athlete?
Yeah, it can be a little odd when those guys are out there with big leads, but I’m not that concerned. And with practice’s being scarce, Thibs wants these guys to get as many minutes as possible together.
dakoose - February 6, 2012
I agree about his minutes...
Jordan averaged 38 min/game and Pippen was 39 min/game. I’m sure they had BIG leads most games but was anyone harping on Phil Jackson about their playing time? NO. Everyone should get off Thibs back about his substitution pattern. Because we are winning and doing well everybody needs to nit-pick about things to find something to complain about. If we were 6-20 would anybody be talking about their minutes. Get serious. These are the best athletes in the world. The difference in a few minutes is going to do no harm physically. If Deng is already able to log 40 minutes a game it will not hurt him to consistently do 40 minutes. it’d be one thing if he averaged 40 minutes and then had to play 50 minutes at the same level. I am a distance runner and coach cross country. I see no reason a professional player cant play 40 minutes. THE ONLY issue with playing extra minutes is that it also increase the minutes per season that a player could possibly get injured. BUT, should a coach/player really worry about injury. If it happens it happens. It could happen at minute 1 of the game, it could happen in bed with an apple, it could happen with a gym bag. my point is to stop talking about Luol’s minutes. Its so frustrating to see Sam Smith and everyone on twitter being sarcastic about his minutes. YOU ARE NOT THE COACH. Thibs is f-ing awesome and i’m sure he knows what he is doing. For example, against philly he didn’t play ANYSTARTERS the whole 4th quarter. Ahhh. ok, i’ll stop. off my soap box. To end, I just have to say that as an endurance athlete, it is stupid to nit-pick over playing time. Luol just sat out for 1.5 weeks, he needs to build his endurance up. Peace out. boom.
K_yle33 - February 6, 2012
it's just not necessary, so just...stop doing it
he’s playing through pain, and isn’t Michael Jordan. Sit him when the game’s in hand, I agree it’s not a big deal, as in they should sit him because it isn’t a big deal.
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
I understand with your points
I also think that if a player has an injury that they need to rest it… (like rip playing longer minutes, or derrick if his back is bothering him) but if players are healthy then I feel the minute conversation isn’t as relevant
K_yle33 - February 6, 2012
also, sorry for my vent session
it wasn’t directed at you, as much as just the whole issue in general. I was AT the bulls/bucks game the other night in MKE. It was outstanding. The crowd was 90% bulls fans. I didn’t see much issue with Dengs playing time that game. I was soooo excited about the game and all that was on twitter by Sam Smith and others was about this playingtime issue so it was difficult to just be excited about the game, without having to worry about these other issues. make sense?
K_yle33 - February 6, 2012
eh, just the 'curse' of rooting for a team that's awesome
criticism is nitpicking by default, really
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
This thought should enter into our discussions more
Although I admit it only permeates the game threads fully
Joninja - February 6, 2012
Well, simply the fact that he's out on the floor exposes him to the possibility of injury
So if Thibs takes him out three minutes earlier in a blowout, that’s three minutes that a freak occurance can’t happen. Of course, you can’t plan your rotation around weird shit happening, but for a guy like Lu that has had some pretty strange non-major contact injuries, it’s probably better to just play it safe
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
this
you don’t tempt fate. thibs is daring the motherfucker.
obnoxious american - February 6, 2012
I'd like to point out that,
of the Bulls’ next three opponents, all on the road, the Nets are gonna be missing Lopez, Brooks and Okur. The Hornets will be missing Landry and Gordon (possibly Kaman, although that’s a strange situation), and the suckfest Bobcats will be missing Augustin and Henderson. Anything less than 3-0 will be unacceptable.
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
and somehow the NBA is still against the Bulls in regards to scheduling
Stern hates when Chicago is successful!
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
and going 2-1 is totally acceptable
I mean, I’ll accept it. Who isn’t? It’s a long-ass road trip.
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
Really?
I get that this is a shitty road trip, and road games are tougher, but have you seen those teams, and who they’re missing? Who could we lose to?
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
I dunno, just seems like an empty remark to call it 'unacceptable'
they could have a clunker. I certainly don’t expect it but I’d accept it.
(I suppose it’s just an expression, I’m having a real difficult time with those today, apparently)
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
Ok, how about: "It would really suck" if the Bulls lose one of the next three games?
(plus, don’t forget the “Thibs coaching the All Star game” implications if we lose. Still wanna see him yell at Lebron for a blown defensive assignment in the first quarter)
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
They did stop at home though...
After the New York game and before the Milwaukee game, so the trip should feel a little shorter to the players.
Dionysus2.0 - February 6, 2012
yeah, it's true
plus that milwaukee game was basically a home game lol. but they did stop at home before (and maybe even after? i feel like i read that, but not sure), so they did get to break it up a little.
Jaina - February 6, 2012
It was on twitter...
Can’t recall if swirsk or KC mentioned the stop before the Milwaukee game…
Dionysus2.0 - February 6, 2012
frankly i dont know what to do but accept the outcomes of these professional basketball games
in which i play no role whatsoever.

MrBungle - February 6, 2012
anything less than 3-0 against those teams
would be unacceptable even if they were fully healthy. these are three awful teams. also, isn’t morrow out for the nets too?
John T. Unger - February 6, 2012
yes, morrow is out. i read it online that he has a funeral
K_yle33 - February 6, 2012
yeah, HIS OWN
BECAUSE D-ROSE SAW HE SCORED 42 POINTS AND MARKED IT ON HIS SHIT LIST
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
Rose leads Bulls past Blog-A-Bull
with 36 points on 11-18 shooting, 12 assists, 8 rebounds.
kozzer - February 6, 2012
I really don't think Rose would go 11-18
when he’d just dunk each time
Stacey_Is_King - February 6, 2012
HE WOULD IF I WAS DEFENDING HIM
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
im sure they will go 2-1, boozer will average 14 and 8 and you will somehow find a way for it not
to be his fault.
TheMoon - February 6, 2012
No Booz fault.
Bulldozer - February 6, 2012
love it.
TheMoon - February 6, 2012
I'd be totally fine with 2 outta 3
This season is way too wacky and unpredictable to demand them to beat every team they should beat on a 9 game road trip
Option27 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Whats going to happen with Korver?
When Hamilton returns and Deng is playing his normal rotation, will Korver still get much playing time? he is on fire lately and I feel needs to stay as a steady part of the rotation. I’d play him over Brewer to be honest. Korver’s D is really impressing me this year (just versus his D from last year).
K_yle33 - February 6, 2012
Rip, 22- 30minutes, KK 15-20
Trey23 - February 6, 2012
i dont want jimmys minutes being cut down to like 1 again, lol
thibs needs to learn time management. He needs to let deng rest a bit more esp like the mil game.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
Did Thibs have a mandatory Super Bowl party for the players yesterday?
Option27 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
For those who take interest in such things
Bulls are no. 1 in Hollinger’s rankings
They’re no. 2 behind Miami in Stein’s. F
Poloplaya14 - February 6, 2012
Also, D Rose is fifth in PER, and barely trailing CP3 and Kobe
Of course, Lebron is number one, and currently playing at an historic level :( #hollywoodashell
Juiceboxjerry - February 6, 2012
but is he behind deron williams?
see, these are the questions.
obnoxious american - February 6, 2012
He's 5th in win shares too
3rd in offensive win shares behind Lebron and Love
tuluse - February 6, 2012
thing is big men are heavily biased in PER calculations
i wouldnt try to compare a pg to a SF/PF. Just seeing Rose being high in PER is an amazing feat. Think about it, look at Michael Jordans PER. Its not the best PER, but you already know you dont need to use PER to determine how fuckin good he was.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
what the hell are you talking about?
Jordan has 4 of the top 10 single-season PERs in history.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/per_season.html
Though maybe we should throw it out because the Mutumbo-esque David Robinson is #10 (callback to the Dwight Howard thread!)
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
well, wouldnt u think MJ should have the hgihest PER?
Again, if you have more big men than guards in the top10-50 highest PER of all time, then this stat is def flawed measurement for most pgs and sgs. I know jordan has a great PER, but i just dont like the fact LeBron is AHEAD OF JORDAN!
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
Bigs have historially been more important than guards
tuluse - February 6, 2012
(fyi, i knew Jordan PER is crazy high, but i think that stat is too flawed to do justice to the GOAT)
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
HE IS THE CAREER LEADER IN PER.
Ozzie Montana - February 6, 2012
im taking bout single seasons, not career...
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
you're taking our your ass
your friendly BullsBlogger - February 6, 2012
you mean "you're talking out of your ass"
i guess im not being clear. Point is even with Mj’s PER being high, I still feel is should be higher than what it is. He does have the higher career PER, but I just dont like the list with LeBron James, Shaq, and David Robinson being really close to MJ’s PER.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
plus im surprised Kobe PER being this low (not saying its low, but its lwoer than expected)
as I much as I like Hakeem and Tim Duncan, I feel Kobe PER doesnt do him any justice either.
Geo4MVP - February 6, 2012
did my message get cut in half?

yeah boy it must be so hard to get a lot of assists when you have open guys to pass to because either they’re left alone to focus on lebron/wade/bosh or hell you even have wade and bosh to PASS to

Scola threw a ball going out of bounds at Love and it him him in the balls. Not saying it was cool what Love did but it takes something for someone to throw a guy on the ground and then stomp him. Yeah it’s bad but still…damn. Imagine if Boozer did that to Bosh just once after Bosh does one of his fake foul moves. Talk about setting a tone.
Dils - February 6, 2012
