Derrick Rose didn't participate in shootaround, Thibs first said Rose was 'most likely' not playing, then ruled him officially out. Way to give up that tactical advantage against the Kings, Thibs.
I'm going to give Marc Stein firsties on the James news. For those that thought that James out-performed John Lucas III in his first stint here, you're likely correct, but Lucas has a guaranteed contract this year.

Mike James Bitch
T.Moore - February 14, 2012
ha, we were at the bar watching the game when he had ten assists or whatever it was
and everytime he did anything we did the MIKE JAAAAMES thing. i have to wonder if people were getting angry.
obnoxious american - February 14, 2012
I was at that game and psyched because although it
was against the Bobcats, I had 2nd row seats. Well……the guy behind me thought he was soooooo clever screaming “MIKE JAAAMES!!!!!!!” every time he touched the ball. It was one of the worst, most un-enjoyable sporting events I’ve ever been to only because of that guy.
So…..yeah, I’m sure people were probably getting angry.
dakoose - February 14, 2012
well we at least had the excuse of being drunk and at a loud bar
obnoxious american - February 14, 2012
the guy dakoose mentions
was probably drunk and in charlotte watching the bobcats. really any different? ;)
Jaina - February 14, 2012
Hardly.
It was some retarded college kid who was there with his family, which clearly wasn’t big on basketball. They were asking him all sorts of questions during the game and he was giving correspondingly stupid answers, though he thought he was a basketball savant.
At one point his folks asked him why everyone was booing this poor Tyrus Thomas fella. The guy goes ahead and says he was a college sensation who was a superstar here in Chicago for a few years who left to get more money in Charlotte. Me and my brother were laughing our asses off and we bonded with the guys in front of us who joined us in mocking this ass-clown yelling MIKE JAAAAMES all game long.
I wanted to punt this guy in the nuts.

So anybody actually want Thibs to not coach the All-Star game?
I kinda wonder about his “keep everyone guessing” strategy and if he might want to not coach “the enemy” in the other East players. Even though it is all in fun.
yevinorion - February 14, 2012
this is how one coaches the asg
stand on the sideline of the asg
kpd - February 14, 2012
Im not sure if you're joking
But I’m sure there is very little coaching involved in “coaching” the all star game. He’ll probably just be making substitutions and whatnot.
comebackkirk12 - February 14, 2012 via mobile
Thibs would probably have a heart attack from the lack of defense
ChiTownSportsMaster - February 14, 2012
This is more what I'm thinking...
yevinorion - February 14, 2012
I'm praying he coaches more than anything
Seeing Rose, Deng and Thibs in the Orlando locker room together is as close to recruiting as we’re ever gonna get
Option27 - February 14, 2012
Seeing how fragile and sensitive a lot of the stars are today,
that has as much of a chance of backfiring as it does of working, lol. Dwight might pee himself when Thibs starts yelling ICE ICE ICE ICE!!!!!!!!!!
dakoose - February 14, 2012
hell no!
i want him to be the coach, then force lebron, hibbert, and pierce to play intense full court press defense and play 46 minutes while Luol and rose sit back and laugh their asses off

So this is the official preview for tonight?
Not enough people signing up to write previews?
Let me at least drop these links:
http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/preview?gameId=320214004
“The Kings, who open a six-game road trip Tuesday, have averaged just 87.7 points while going 3-12 away from home.”
http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2012/2/14/2797353/kings-vs-bulls-2012-schedule-preview
“But this first match, assuming Derrick Rose sits again, is a potential win …”
http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-bulls-confidential/2012/02/bulls-vs-kings-7pm-on-csn-rose-day-to-day-after-back-checks-out/
“Chicago could easily roll these guys if they get them discombobulated, but if the Kings get hot, they’re difficult to stop.”
http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAC/2012.html
Mostly below average players on the Kings’ roster, and their record shows it, especially away from home. The Bulls should win even without Rose.
Tim S. - February 14, 2012
Also, I'll be keeping an eye on the Heat at the Pacers,
or at least recording it for later.
Tim S. - February 14, 2012
I think I'd rather have CJ Watson than Evans
http://bkref.com/tiny/DwAtS
He scores more efficiently, gets more assists, plays better defense and turns the ball over about same all with similar usage.
tuluse - February 14, 2012
You'd rather have CJ than Tyreke?
Ok……..
dakoose - February 14, 2012
You're crazy
I love CJ, but Tyreke is a great player. I just don’t know if he’s best suited for the role on his team of being the creator, he might be better as a 2.
yevinorion - February 14, 2012
Man, you're just as extreme as tuluse.
Tyreke isn’t worse than CJ, but he’s definitely not a “great player.” He’s a pretty good 1-2 hybrid who is best slashing to the hoop and in transition and struggles shooting from beyond the free throw line.
It’s not a great comp, but I think of him as the Josh Smith of point guards. Now, Smith is a better defender than Tyreke, but both have similar offensive profiles, poor shooters, great slashers and finishers, good size and athleticism for their positions.
But you’re right, Tyreke is miscast currently as a PG with the Kings. He needs to play more minutes as a 2 but won’t be that good of a 2 guard until he can consistently shoot from outside; his shot is awful.
dakoose - February 14, 2012
yeah not a player I would want to build around
you see a lot of guys like that, who appear to be talented but then you realize you cant imagine quite how they fit into a team. I see Jeff Green that way, a guy who has no natural position. they have to be in the perfect situation to reach their potential.
paddyfairview - February 14, 2012
At some point, CJ will stop shooting 45% from 3-pt land, and those numbers will even out a little bit.
Poloplaya14 - February 14, 2012
He's also shooting way worse from 2 point range than he normally does
tuluse - February 14, 2012
He's shooting just as well from 2-point range this year as he did last year
Bottom line is he’s never played this well before, so I’m very reluctant to believe that it’ll hold up.
Poloplaya14 - February 14, 2012
His FG%, TS%, and eFG% are all below his career average
If anything last year is what looks like the outlier.
tuluse - February 14, 2012
Right, but I think that's a product of no longer playing Nellieball.
He’s never sustained close to a 24% USG before. I’m skeptical that he can keep that up while remaining efficient.
Poloplaya14 - February 14, 2012
He could lose a lot of efficiency and still be more efficient than Evans.
It’s kind of funny how perceptions lag for players. Since Evans was a high lottery pick and had one good year, he must be good. Since CJ was undrafted and comes off the bench (now behind the league MVP I might add) he must be bad.
Statistically, there is a lot of evidense CJ is the better player.
tuluse - February 14, 2012
http://www.thewindyapple.com/2012/02/14/bulls-vs-kings-preview/
thewindyapple - February 14, 2012
yeah did they not watch
the bulls pound 4 straight teams by 20 points, the latter 3 with a combined 30 minutes from rose?
…
Jaina - February 14, 2012
As long as Cousins doesn't go off, we should be fine.
CJ should go back to scoring now that he’s playing some bums and the defense should be fine against this iso-heavy offense.
dakoose - February 14, 2012
More James, less Lucas please!

yevinorion - February 14, 2012
and nail the 3!!!!!
awww yeah
Trey23 - February 14, 2012
Guys and gals, I'll say it here as we play another patsy tonight
Watching us struggle against good teams, AT THIS POINT, we are not going to go to the Finals. Our bigs, Booze, Noah, Omer, Taj, im not gonna say they stink, but when they are matched up against someone even close to their size and ability, they will not outperform their counterpart.
Team ball will get the Bulls one win over the Heat, Sixers, Pacers, Orlando
To get 3 more wins? Rose will have to play out of his mind. Maybe he can get 2……
DO you expect anyone else to play above his average game? To win the conference series we need players to put a string of great games together.
Will Taj get 12 and 10 in 28 minutes?
Can Omer get 10 and 12 in a game?
Will Boozer drop 30 and 10 on the Heat?
Can KK get 20 pts in a game on the road in Miami?
Trey23 - February 14, 2012
The Bulls, if Rip is healthy,
have a great shot at getting to and winning the finals. Now, if Rose has a better series this time around against Miami, AND Rip is healthy, I’d say the Bulls have a better shot at beating Miami than the other way around.
dakoose - February 14, 2012
i dont know dakoose
I thought our bigs were our advantage, but it looks like Bosh, Haslem, and company can neutralize them, leaving our only chance for Derrick to go crazy 2-3 times
Miami is playing unbelievable ball right now
Trey23 - February 14, 2012
that depends on whether rip is healthy (knock on wood)
he helps space the floor really well and if we can give booz and noah to do their thing, then im confident they can put up respectable numbers which wiould be enough to beat the heat.
Geo4MVP - February 14, 2012
I recently re-watched the conference finals
For as much as it was made out that Lebron played lockdown defense on Rose, Rose kept getting by Lebron but couldn’t get by Wade who was always lurking right behind Lebron since Brewer or Bogans couldn’t shoot. If Rip is healthy then they definitely have a good shot since he can also defend Wade, which Korver could not leaving Rose to doing all the backcourt work.
pb&j - February 14, 2012
yeah, and rip really seems to frustrate wade
you could see it even with rip’s one legged performance against them 2 weeks ago.
Jaina - February 14, 2012
No shit, Rose is hurt
tuluse - February 14, 2012
ill said it before and ill say it for the last time, record against the GOOD TEAMS DONT MEAN SHIT!
last yr our record was great aaginst the good teams, but what happened? thats right, got sent home by the motha fuckin heat who had a worse record than us against the good teams.
Geo4MVP - February 14, 2012
You watched the bulls struggle against the Celtics
WITHOUT THE STARTING BACKCOURT. And the bigs played well in that game (minus Boozer’s always terrible defense)
ChiTownSportsMaster - February 14, 2012
i dont think Omer ever has to score in double figures for us to win a game
it will be enough if he plays his usual game and finishes under the hoop once or twice instead of turning it over. also, if everyone’s playing decently, about 12 points is all korver should ever need, and 30 and 10 is a lot to ask from boozer. Unless you’re talking about each of these guys carrying terrible games from teammates, I just dont think that kind of production is necessary to beat even the Heat.
With our defense I assume, in general, that if we score 100 points we will win the game. So far this year it’s been entirely true, and last year we only lost 4 times in regulation and once in overtime when scoring 100 points. So if everybody scores their current averages in a playoff game, we get:
Rose 22
Deng 15.6
Booz 15.4
Rip 14.2
Watson 10.4
Noah 9.3
Kyle 7.8
Brew 7.5
…and we’re already over 100 before we get to taj and omer. these are skewed because we have hamilton’s average plus the averages of guys (brew, korver) who have played more while he’s out, and CJ’s number is definitely inflated with rose missing time, same for brewer and deng. and obv the bench plays less in the playoffs. i don’t think that lowers the total, though, considering our bench.
the point is, as constructed, we can score more than enough to win if even if most of our guys have average games. I have no doubt that rose is going to score more than 22 several times against the Heat or anyone else.
all this team needs is to be healthy to have a damn good shot at anyone in the league.
paddyfairview - February 14, 2012
should have added that we didnt lose at all in the playoffs when scoring 100, although it only happened 3 times
paddyfairview - February 14, 2012
disagree
average will not cut it in the playoffs.
some guys won’t hit the average, thats when we will need 25 ,( yeah 30 is a miracle) from Booze, or 28 from Deng or 20 from Korver off the bench.
I’ve always said a Bulls/Heat game is 50/50, so i hope i’m wrong, our bigs are giant kitty cats when met with resistance form good players
Trey23 - February 14, 2012
We lost in the playoffs because we couldn't take care of the ball.
AND we choked at the end of those games (certainly in game 5 vs the Heat), AND the refs had a clear bias (it’s never easy playing 5 vs 8), AND Lebron, for once, played well in the latter stages. There are some other, lesser factors, but that would be pretty boring to write and it’s water under the bridge, sooooo..
BullsFan22 - February 14, 2012
I took your idea and went an extra step
I took all the per 36 min points off basketball reference, made up my own numbers for how many minutes I expect each player to play when everyone is healthy and divided pp36 by 36 and multipled by my minutes to create adjusted points per game.
Player…………PP36….Min….APPG
Carlos Boozer…..15.4….30….15.3
Ronnie Brewer……7.5….20….5.7
Kyle Korver……..7.8….11….3.7
Omer Asik……….3.5….18….4.0
Joakim Noah……..9.2….30….9.5
Taj Gibson………7.1….18….6.7
Luol Deng………15.6….40….16.4
Derrick Rose……22.0….40….24.8
C.J. Watson…….10.5…..8….3.8
Richard Hamilton..14.2….25….11.5
It adds up to 101.3 points.
I probably gave Boozer and Brewer too many minutes and Rip, CJ, and Korver too few, but I think for a rough estimate it works pretty well.
tuluse - February 14, 2012
Shit, I copied something wrong
Here is the correct numbers (all my pp36 didn’t copy right, minutes and APPG were still right).
Carlos Boozer….18.4….30….15.3
Ronnie Brewer….10.2….20….5.7
Kyle Korver….12.1….11….3.7
Omer Asik….7.9….18….4.0
Joakim Noah….11.4….30….9.5
Taj Gibson….13.4….18….6.7
Luol Deng….14.8….40….16.4
Derrick Rose….22.3….40….24.8
C.J. Watson….17.1….8….3.8
Richard Hamilton….16.5….25….11.5
tuluse - February 14, 2012
if my quick math was right, that's 100.5 points now.
those mpg numbers look pretty good to me playoff-wise, with only maybe korver being a little low IMO. it’s a simple concept, but i’d say the reasonable ability to squeeze 100 pts out of that group of defensive savants is a pretty good sign
paddyfairview - February 14, 2012
Yes
Yes, yes, yes, and yes. =)
KCinIL - February 14, 2012
Lucas contract guaranteed
Isn’t it only guaranteed because we didn’t cut him like two weeks ago when we had a chance. I really don’t know why we didn’t cut him then and sign a legitimate threat at PG. Lucas isn’t interested in doing anything but shot, and is a disgrace on defense. Sorry for the rant but he is one bull I truly hate.
lindseyHuntersBackup - February 14, 2012
Is there a preview to tonight's game or do the Kings suck enough that we don't need one??
BullsFan22 - February 14, 2012
Um I think this is the preview.

You mean on tv?
Nope. WCIU right now
KCinIL - February 14, 2012
I don't care who the fuck we've played
20 of 30 on the road to start a season, with our injuries, and to go 23-7 is fuckin fantabulous.
KCinIL - February 14, 2012
I agree
I thought for awhile that we had played more away games than Clippers played total games at one point. We’ve seen how the product works when its all together. The problem is, getting everyone healthy at the right time. With the exception of Boozer last year, everyone was relatively healthy (except I think Noah with his thumb injury).
Saukrates - February 14, 2012
20 of 30 on the road would be awesome
