Derrick Rose back injury: No structural damage, still day-to-day

From KC Johnson:

Back specialist confirmed Bulls' diagnosis of DRose. Lower back spasms. Nothing structurally wrong with back. Muscular issue. Day-to-day.

That doesn't really say much, but it does say what it isn't: nothing crazy, season ending, etc. So that's good.

As far as updates for this week's games, I expect bullcrap from Thibs and we'll find out at tipoff. Don't want the those Sacramento Kings prepared!

No reason to play him against the Kings

just let him sit and get more treatment

I'll be cheering like this when D-Rose comes back...

GIF party???

I was starting to get real scared about this back thing.

as did I, anytime you involve the back bad stuff can happen
Thank God.

To be honest, we are getting pretty lucky with these injuries this year. Deng is able to play, and it seems after some rest Rose will be able to play. The only injury i’m concerned about is Hamilton’s. And, my worry isn’t even about his actual injury but about his conditioning and ability to ball after being out this long. I forget he is even on the team at times.

lots of time left for RIP to come back and play with the team, its Feb. 13
Yeah, I've completely lost track of Rip.
well cause he hasn't even been with the team in a bit

dealing with a personal issue away from the team while rehabbing. so it’s not like he’s even been a presence on the bench.

if he can stay healthy in the second half of the season, not too worried about getting his conditioning right for when it really matters…

good news

But they still need to rest him

I'm glad this isn't serious. Hopefully he rests it properly and he's good to go. Maybe his

toe will get better too.

Yeah. That's a bonus.
yeah, especially

since it seems like these back issues have arisen from him compensating for his toe and all that. so maybe if his toe gets improves, he’s less likely to reaggravate this injury as well.

I think one begets the other...

The injured toe puts more pressure on the back…lets rest him until April!

I'm 30. I've had lower-back issues since I was 19

I’ve dealt with back spasms for 10 years. What Rose needs is 1) rest and 2) flexeril.

If the spasms are anywhere near as bad as mine were at their worst (trip to ER), he needs to be on muscle relaxers for at least 10 days. The most strenuous activity he should be doing is stretching, and getting massages or ultrasound to stimulate blood flow.

If he plays tomorrow I will be pissed.

i hate flexiril..worst wake up feeling in the world

what worked for me was ibuprofen 800mg, rest & chiro…plus alot of streching exercise & massage 9like you said)

Yeah it sucks. It makes you tired, but that's what muscle relaxers do.

After I went to the ER I was on Flexeril and hydrocodone for the pain for two weeks, after which I was basically a functioning person again.

I still have a carisoprodol prescription for when spasms keep me up at night.

Can’t imagine being an NBA player with these issues. Crazy.

+ this condensed schedule? Id be getting a massage every hour

MUSHU TIME!

is that, that jermey lin guy everyones talking about?
they gave me prednisone.

you really need the proper rest though, to eliminate muscle tension.

"we're happy for ya"
It's great news...

…. I was worried about year 3 for him. It will be nice to see the team completely healthy at some point I guess.

lol getting rip back too will be like acquiring a player via midseason trade

only we didn’t have to give up anyone

Yeah right...

lol….At least it won’t be nearly as hard on us as Melo coming back into the Knicks lineup .

It's a good thing that they have a long stretch of games at home

I’m sure those plane rides must have exacerbated those pains.

yeah i mentioned that too in one of the other threads

no more traveling until the ASG…

It seems like the FO finally woke the fuck up

http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/7572229/chicago-bulls-derrick-rose-undergoes-mri

Gar:

Seeing how he responds to the therapy. And when we feel, he feels, that he’s well enough to go back on the floor (he’ll return)."

Sounds like my favorite FO guy is finally taking ownership and realizing the team’s future is at stake here. I predict we won’t be seeing him back until the ASG, and then he’ll play real games after that.

In a sense, I think the ASG would be a good tuneup for him to see if he’s fine without any pressure.

Getting in the inevitable

bad back because he carries this team out of the way.

On the real tip though

For the last 24-48 hours I’ve been seeing the entire Bulls future flashing before my eyes. Staving off depression and thinking about a Bulls team without D-Rose. After hearing he’s going to be fine, I now have this realization that maybe I was taking this dude for granted. Never again.

Appreciate every move/every play/every shot, because in this damn league – especially with this season from hell – you never know when it could be the last. This kid is once in a lifetime.

once in a lifetime

if you were born in ’99, I guess?

Well, to be fair

You would have had to have been born a bit earlier to actually enjoy/remember the Jordan years.

i lived and enjoyed the jordan years, yes

but technically you could argue that some people were born earlier. so im speaking on their behalf. even though i’m not. yeah.

Well I didn't, but I wouldn't call Rose once in a lifetime

he’s very good, don’t get me wrong, but once in a lifetime is stretching it.

i wouldn't either

but based solely on the fact he has been in the league for 4 years. He has gotten my hopes up though, the league was dead to me in 1999-2000.

You could technically argue some people were born earlier? Technically?

As the Blog-a-bull community...

Lets out a sigh of collective relief. Any other news would have basically meant the season was over. Sounds like he will get rest.

Hopefully, he can skip the All-Star weekend and relax all the way into March.

Am I the only one almost MORE nervous because it is "just back spasms"?

Derrick is going to instantly think he can play through it and may end up hurting it worse. If the team doesn’t really put their foot down and tell him to rest, Bulls fans should really let them hear it.

Rose please talk to Shaq

The only bit of advice I would ever want Shaq to tell Rose is that if you aren’t healthy in the playoffs, toughing out those regular season games become meaningless.

yeah maybe shaq can talk some sense into rose

and tell him about how having the most dominant big man in the game on your team as an elite guard can help you win multiple titles

"Just icy hot the shit out of it" Shaq
shaq's busy giving weight advice

remember kids

the mcdonalds diet is the diet for everyone

Great news!

Hopefully now all it takes is a few days off or however long it takes for him to heal to the point where he is able to play at his best. This comes at a good time, as now we have the Kings, several home games and the all star break. Rip should be back relatively soon, and now we have to hope Deng isn’t done for the rest of the season. If Deng isn’t done, and he too, is able to come back to something like his best? We are gonna be in great shape. Now we just need Korver to make shots, CJ to handle the ball better and not wast possessions, Asik to make his inside presence felt whenever he has the chance and Boozer to play tougher D and move out of his mom’s house.

what's with the newfound concern for luol?

did something else happen with him?

Yeah I hadn't heard anything along those lines either?

If Deng’s season was in question again far more people would be freaking out on this site.

if deng was hurt again

my investments in ledge-side properties would be the smartest thing i’ve ever done

Hopefull he's back for the ASG

Not saying that just because it’d be awesome to have him in, but also it’s just about the perfect tune up for him before getting back to real games. Nobody trying to hammer him or anything, just let him test it and see how he moves and how it feels in what’s essentially a glorified scrimmage.

When is Rip gonna play again? all jokes aside please
thibs indicated after the all star break

until then, no rose and no rip.

i hate feburary injuries because of "after the all-star break"

i know we went them good and ready, but i still hate seeing that on an injury report

I have tickets to the Spurs game on the 29th.

It is going to be pretty badass if the Bulls field a complete, healthy roster. Well worth the 11 bucks (plus 8 in fees the crooks)!

Any reason this thread isnt showing up on the main page?
Bulls win or a Heat lost

tomorrow means Thibs will be the East coach for the All-Star Game.

I'm sure Thibs would be.....

…. a bundle of joy to play under in an ASG.

Hope he plays miami 3 douches for the whole game

Who am I kidding Deng gonna play the whole game

I hope he tells Luol

to sweep the leg.

I thought that you cant be the coach 2 years in a row

Wasent whats his face from the heat the coach last year?

Rip Hamilton's Grandmother dies

thoughts and prayers with Rip and his entire family!
http://www.thewindyapple.com/2012/02/14/richard-hamiltons-grandmother-dies/

ahh well that explains it

condolences to him and his family. man there’ve been several deaths around the nba family recently..

who cares what a back specialist thinks about roses injury? i want to hear more from the guy who can craft world class defensive schemes.
MJ is back in chicago

as in Mike James

Yes, I'm guessing that means Rose may be out for a while.

Rose is officially out tonight.

who???
MIKE JAAAAMMMMES
He's Mike James bitch

SCALABRINE! Clap Clap Give Charlie Murphy his drink.

I hate to see Rose and Hamilton out, but

this does make the coming home stand more competitive.
