Bulls vs. Milwaukee Bucks: 2011-12 Game Preview #21

[UPDATE by your friendly BullsBlogger, 01/27/12 5:32 PM CST - per KC, Rip aggravated his groin and is likely out, Jimmy Butler to get the start -ed.]

[Thanks to pocketwatch for today's game preview. Game Thread up at 7:08 -ed.]

Tonight, the Chicago Bulls look to bounce back from their first home loss at the hands of the Pacers on Wednesday. The 7-10 Milwaukee Bucks look to add to their 3 game road win streak.

The Bulls catch a break (pun slightly intended I guess) as Bucks' big man Andrew Bogut suffered a fractured ankle against the Rockets on Wednesday and is out indefinitely. This means we will likely get a hearty dose of Drew Gooden tonight at center.

If we can keep Brandon Jennings in check this should be a game where the Bulls take care of business with relative ease. Jennings is averaging a career high 20.2 points on 44% shooting this year paired with a 20.7 PER. He comes into tonight extra hot averaging 26 points over his last 5 games. Jennings is a streaky shooter that can quickly light you up, but without Bogut our defense can mainly focus on shutting him down. But IF he's got it going tonight, it should be extra hilarious to see Boozer trying to defend him on pick and roll situations.

Taj Gibson looks like he'll be back tonight as he participated in the team's shootaround this morning saying, "I'm feeling a lot better, anxious to play." This is splendid news. Watching Boozer Wednesday against the Pacers led to me yelling at my TV more than I'm comfortable with in front of strangers. Here's also to hoping for zero meaningful Scal minutes tonight.

The Bucks with Mbah a Moute, Ilyasova, Delfino, Jackson, and Dunleavy have the potential to give us some matchup problems at the 3 and 4 tonight with different size and skill sets, but having Taj back should help a lot.

Star-divide

Matchups

Point Guard:
Derrick Rose
vs. Brandon Jennings

Rose still looks to be limited by his toe injury and Jennings comes into this game hot. Jennings is averaging 17 shot attempts this year and this will probably only go up with Bogut out. Rose is going to have his hands full on defense.

Rose has dominated Jennings in his career, so no reason to think he won't do the same tonight.

Shooting Guard:
Rip Hamilton vs. Shaun Livingston

Livingston has not been much of a factor this year. He's only started 4 games and his averages (7.5/2/2.6) don't scare you. Have fun chasing Rip around screens.

Bonus Video: Livingston's extremely gross knee injury from however any years ago (NSFL)

Small Forward:
Ronnie Brewer
vs. Carlos Delfino

Brewer is coming off his first career 20/10 game against the Pacers on Wednesday. It helped that Danny Granger was only aware of his presence on the court 50% of the time allowing for sneaky baseline buckets. Delfino is shooting an awful 38% from the field this year but averaging a respectable 11/4.6/2.7.

Power Forward:
Carlos Boozer
vs. Luc Mbah a Moute

How awful was Boozer wednesday? I've never missed Taj so much in my life. Substituting Scal in for Boozer at the end of the game made me extremely happy and pissed off at the same time. I don't even want to talk about this. Good to have you back Taj.

Center:
Joakim Noah
vs. Drew Gooden

Noah seems to have found his groove again as he has put up double digit rebounds in 7 of his past 9 games. Gooden gets the nod for the injured Bogut. Gooden is no slouch, but the drop off from Bogut is pretty sizable.

From KC

Rip aggravated groin, likely late scratch vs. Bucks. Rookie Jimmy Butler poised to make first NBA start. #Bulls

JIMMMAAAHHHHHHYYY!!!!!
JIMMMAAAHHHHHHYYY!!!!!
JIMMEH!!!!!!!!
Good grief

I really hope this isn’t going to be a problem the whole season.

Its going to be...

Take a look at how many games Rip has missed the past two seasons….lets just hope he sucks it up come playoff time.

Was it a related injury though? (the groin)
Last year

isn’t really a true indication tho. Remember, the coach benched him for a stretch of almost 2 months.

whoa

way to go from 0 playing time to serious playing time. You gotta figure he’ll get a little SF burn too. Damn.

Damnit rip's groin
argggg

and this means he prob will sit against the heat too… i was hoping to get to see how the actual starting 5 looked against them… sigh :/

Fantastic

For being a deep team we’re getting fuckin thin at the 2 and 3. Any GOOD people available or is it now only gonna be through a trade?

Wow.

Playing THE MOST GAMES OUT OF ANY TEAM so damn quickly in this season actually DID hurt us. Who would of thought?
The schedule better make up for this shit with plenty of days off later so we can be 100% for the playoffs.

there are 2 types of people

1) yay Jimmy

2)Goddamnit Rip’s old

3) Boy that 15ppg from Marshon Brooks would sure be nice. Dammit!
I have a feeling this will

nag Rip all season. Make the most of your start Jimmy!

damn thibs, stop breaking this guys balls
no KK?
Gotta keep the

Benchmob together..

Right thigh injury

heard the blind funk say so…

JIMMY'S GOT SOME MOVES!!!
Now they're saying "game-time" decesion
Hope Jimmy's as good as we think he is.
I think BaB's perception is skewed,

considering we mostly see him in garbage time when defenses don’t give a damn.
The only thing he’s done during minutes that matter is turn the ball over.

i don't know if anyone actually thinks he is that good

they just want him to get a chance.

I know what you mean

But maybe it’s possible…

He’s got his chance now at least.

if jimmy plays well

hollinger’s per machine will explode

KC's blurb on chicagosports.com

says KC aggravated his groin injury and then it says he has a thigh bruise. which is it? or both?

KC is hurt too? Dang it.....
Korver and Watson plus the Charlotte pick for Ray Allen

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=74r4kuo

The Celts are apparently serious about blowing up their team.

That's way too much for Allen
I don't think so.

He’s the best player on their team. He knows Thib’s system. I think with him the Bulls would be favorites to win it all.

The Charlotte pick is protected. I was thinking they might not give him up for that little.

Plus with Rip's groin issues the Bulls may need another starting 2 guard.
CJ and Korver are worth more to us than Ray is to them right now

You don’t give up 2 players plus a 1rst for an aging vet, no matter how good he is(I’m sure theres exceptions, he not one of em right now with him having his own injury). And Paul Pierce will always be the best player on that team.

replace cj with scal,

AND YOU GOTTA DEAL

trade machine won't let me trade scal. i guess that means he can't be traded.

Plus he don’t make enough money to make it work.

it works with Korver and Brewer though.

might be better for the Bulls as they don’t give up their backup PG and still have Rip and Butler coming off the bench at 2 guard.

With Deng injured

Why would you want to give up our second best perimeter defender? We don’t know how this injury will affect Deng’s physicality… I’d rather give up Rip

Not to mention sacrificing all of our 2-3 depth

I don’t see trading for Ray as worth anything more than picks

it won't let me trade Rip
i thought the capitals would show i wasn't serious.
He's listed as day to day with a sprained ankle.

Probably not a nagging injury.

Still

He’s not worth that.

2 decent players and a protected pick for one really good player.

It doesn’t seem that bad to me.
I’d prefer Brewer instead of Watson though. They need CJ to back up Rose.

CJ has been playing better than Allen this year

And that’s all that matters, this year. They’re gonna be lucky to get a low 1rst or a 2nd rd pick for em this year. They’re more desperate to trade people that people are desperate to get them.

Not true.
CJ has been playing better than Allen this year
Could be debated

And I should’ve said as of late

Both around 12 points in Jan.

CJ does more than scoring, Allen doesn’t

Watson has 20 PER to Allen's 17

So you could argue it, but they do different things so it’s hard to compare.

One could argue it,

but they would be wrong.

Allen’s TS% is .677 and he has an eFG% of .635. That’s pretty amazing.

Sure but I wouldn't want him playing the point

Like I said, they do different things.

And yeah, that efficiency is unreal for a guard.

he's like 60 years old..

no way

kendal gill is on nba tv

as an analyst…wow!

I'm pretty sure I remember him having some stints on there in the past
he did it last season too.
the rip thing is funny

cuz this morning on the svp show he was on talking about the bulls, and the svp told him that he (rip) should enjoy his rejuvenated career…..must have jinxed him

Korver gets the start
source?
Me

No, rotoworld confirmed from KC on twitter

oh, ok

booooo

I hear ya

This is startin to get scary

Bucks anouncers on LP. Yuck!
So our backup 2 and 3 is Butler? WTF MAN!
Thigh contusion for Rip, not the groin

I guess thats good?

anyone have a stream for the game?
never mind firstrowsports fixed their feed
ahhh, skilesface...how i've missed...no wait, nevermind
