Incredible considering I know they’re popular as fuck, their games get huge ratings, and there are tons of die hard fans. It’s like when people get in there they just feel like chillin
Yeah, it's not like I was expecting an insane crowd for a Bobcats game
but the Scalabrine chants have just really gotten to me. I find the whole thing annoying as hell. That’s more the reason I freaked out a bit. Our crowd is not loud though, I don’t care who we play. And I HAVE been to plenty of games for all the people that wanna come back at me with that.
Crowd is very loud for the playoffs…and usually for big regular season games or in the fourth quarter of any close game. Games like tonight, pretty tame. It is what it is, but my guess is that the Bulls crowd is probably on par with the average NBA crowd.
I would actually say it's probably better than the average crowd
simply because they do fill the place every night, but it’s a step below places lie Boston, NYC, OKC, Golden State and maybe a few others that I’m forgetting. You’d just think that with Chicago being a sports crazy place, it would be louder on most nights.
But like I said, it’s really the Scalabrine stuff that bugs me
to be honest, i always heard that chicago stadium due to all the wood still used in its architecture had great acoustics, never been so i dont know.
I do know that the 300 level is crazy rowdy, but i think its less noticeable if you arent in that section. The 200 level has your mixtures of casual fans, and the 100 level are usually the guys who dont know much about the bulls and scored great seats.
I also figure there are a lot more fans like me, im not really a loud guy, but i do more physical expressions of joy. When theres a bucket made i usually do a clap or a mini fist shake while muttering the effectiveness of the move or play. When theres a big play i usually do a full on fist pump. And on spectacular plays i jump out of my seat. But im not loud.
I think its sort of terrible to just gauge how ‘good’ a crowd is just on how loud people are….i think its more important to be loud when the team needs you to be loud, bad calls, close games, etc, as opposed to just be loud the whole game for the sake of public appearance or something.
Routinely the loudest cheer of the night is for Scalabrine, which is not good imo.
And I don’t need the crowd to be like hillbilly OKC where they stand the whole time. Here’s what I would like to see more of from the UC crowd, personally:
- When we make a nice run, and the other team calls a time out, get on your feet and applaud as they go to the huddle.
- When guys that have played really well come off the court, particulalrly at the end of the game, give them a loud ass ovation. Even Derrick when he plays amazing just gets a smattering of applause. Usually this is when everyone is screaming for Scalabrine, so no one gives a shit if Derrick just scored 40 and played 45 minutes.
- If you MUST do the Scalabrine chants (I’ll admit, they can be fun at times) do it when the game is absolutely over. None of this bullshit in the third quarter when we’re up by 20. Or up by 10 in the fourth
- Also, I’d like to see the crowd get more into it in big spots earlier in games. It seems like they only go full blast if the game is tight in the last 5 minutes. (When we’re playing good teams and they have a guy at the line, or it’s the end of the first half in a tight game etc.)
Other than that, I really don’t have much of an issue. I’ve been to the UC a shitload of times, and sat all over the place. I know it’s a bit different when you’re there, and I know it is different in the 300 level. But I also know that it’s still not all that great.
I’ve sat next to guys that were a lot more outspoken than me, and they’d be standing during playoff games imploring people in the area to get loud because it can get VERY quiet at times. So I’m not just basing this off CSN feeds.
-i think rose said it best, chicago fans are spoiled (with winning). If the bulls go on a 10-0 run against the heat, or the thunder, or last years celtics or lakers, then yea i say this happens, ive been at games when this has happened. But against a team like the cavs or the bobcats, teams that we all know have no right to be on the floor as us. blowing them out or going on a 10-0 run against teams like that is almost expected. Thats how i feel any way. I’m not gonna get super hyped up if a movie plays out the way i expected it to, no one does.
-Again i think this is just due to bad acoustics and thibs. Thibs because he often keeps the guys who made huge impacts on the game, in the game, very late. Late enough that scal is coming in at the same time, and so if there is a loud pop for those leaving the courts, its hidden/transitioned into cheers for scal.
-You want the crowd to be loud, but then not loud in the 3rd. The chants for scal to me is saying “way to go you whupped their ass so bad that we can put scal in now” and so to me its always seemed like praising the team. Its so good that you could put scal in early and not fear losing.
-I think people at the uc respond quite well to big plays, so im not sure what to say about this.
Ive never sat in the 200 level, but ive sat in the 100 level and 300 level plenty of times. To my experience the better the seats the more you have people who only are at the game because they had a hookup as opposed to saving up to get those tickets. So alot of the people who sit near the sides of the court on the 100 levels are those ‘yuppies’ people were talking about above. I sat next to an old high school friend i hadnt talked to sense high school on my last time sitting in the 100 level. The guy came with a mess of people and had no idea if memphis was a good team and asked me who was good on their team. I broke down the guys and he just shrugged not knowing a single person. You do get those people
In the 300 level its different, you get middle aged women yelling “YEA GET EM ROSE!!!” and stuff all game, screaming at the refs and its funny and its awesome, and its like everytime in the 300 level. But in both sections, during big plays, during big moments, during close moments, you feel it in the crowd, this unison desire to Wee-Un
Yup, the 300 level is a blast as far as fan interaction
I’ve never sat in the 200’s either (although I did for a Springsteen concert a couple years ago), so I wouldn’t know.
The 100 level is obviously great because of proximity to the court, but there’s definitely a lot more people sitting on their hands. Although I have noticed (and I don’t know if this is just in games I’ve been to) that sitting behind the baskets in the 100 level there’s a lot more fan support than sitting courtside.
And just one complaint with your rebuttal: I don’t see at all how cheering for Scalabrine in the third is viewed as a positive. I don’t care how much you’re up, the game is almost never over in the third, and Thibs would never go to Scalabrine that early anyway (barring injury). To me, it makes the fans sound disinterested, and probably lulls the players into thinking that the game is over, when it really isn’t.
honestly, the UC is bigger than any of those you mentioned
and it actually is the physically largest arena in the US (though not largest capacity) – so it’s pretty cavernous and the acoustics, as picc says, aren’t good because of that. it’s tough to get it as loud in there as some places. the garden only has 2 levels and it makes a huge difference.
Along with the fact that they have so much other extraneous shit going on with Benny, and the jumbo tron, and playing jock jams over and over, so that has an effect too
it’s every game. We have players that play great, but instead of getting cheered off the floor, it’s all “:SCALABRINE”, and to make it worse, the place is usually dead until then, It’s annoying
From 2007-2011, Mike James was an absolutely worthless basketball player. One good game against Charlotte doesn’t raise James’ standing all that much in my book. Lucas at least had multiple strong performances.
god i hate this crowd. the minute they turn off the decibel animation on the tron you know exactly when that it is, because the crowd gets quiet. its wrong when you can tell on TV.
So I always defend both. Just hate it how Boozer lives and dies by the jumpshot. It’s not just the whole if he misses or hits, but could easily be getting people in foul trouble
He better not be afraid, If your afraid of getting hurt, that’s when you get hurt lol. I always said if we wanna get past Miami he’s gotta at the very least start out on the block. But the dude is ballin right now!
SamSmithHoops Sam Smith
Deng’s back in, but with a wrap on his left wrist from a fall earlier in the game. Now if he goes out, that is trouble for the Bulls
this loss is the living manifestation (mainly in gallinari) that they traded away their future and possibly ruined whatever chance they had at contending.
Bench everyone? It’s this dumbass schedule. The owners and players union argued for months, changed absolutely nothing and now the fans are paying full price for a mediocre product.
As the sun rises across this great nation…
Americans should restore honor and hard work to it’s All-Star Game
Vote your heart

because…
because… Fuck melo, and Fuck the knicks, that why!
(Paid for by the get Luol in this all-star game or elsePAC)
Our depth has been key to our great record so far.
Kudos to garpax for putting together a deep deep team. We are suffering from the schedule in the worst NBA season schedule in history. Good thing we have quality depth in our bench, and that we have played against some easier teams..
Now, will there be a chris richards sighting soon? Who knows, but I am pleased with Asik, and the way our benchmob is handling this. Lets hope Luol keeps his ironman status going, and recovers quickly and can play with it wrapped..
i like the new nba trade machine feature, it shows how much tax a team owes. right now the bulls owe -796,656, which to me means they are 796,656 under the tax so they can sign someone for the minimum without problem
i feel brad miller is mentoring kevin love, which i think is the big reason they wanted him
the veterans min is 1.3 million, which would put us about 600k above the tax. It would still be dollar for dollar, and honestly i dont think jr has any reason to not pay that, its such a measley amount. Hell if he really were all that stingy, you could just waive scal, and turn him into an assistant, or whatever
these games without rose give us fans purpose to watch
Me and my cousin were talking about how once the season started and we saw the bulls we realized that at this point its not even a question of us being an elite team going into the playoffs, to the point where regular season seems a bit monotonus. We know the bulls are gonna make it to the playoffs, and even the games they lose, its more like…MEH. The only team that we question if we can beat is miami, and beating miami comes down to far more than rose.
i think these games have allowed us to better critique the team and see whats there and whats missing, and its nice rooting for some of the role players and watching them get the chance to succeed. Obviously rose is needed for us to be a true elite team, but i think this whole stint is good for the fan base, and possibly for the role players on the team, they should know that without rose they can win. To be honest, im hoping for more closer games, so we can see guys come through in pressure as well without rose.
is that it’s allowed boozer to regain his confidence, and to a lesser degree noah. they were completely on the low end of any of that before basically rose’s injury. after that they have been both tearing it up.
“Since being established for the 1993 NBL season, the Crocodiles have enjoyed financial stability and sustained community support, but on-court success has eluded them.”
Not sure what the NBA equivalent of this scenario would be, but I can almost picture this being a Bull Durham type movie, lol.
I don’t understand why he wouldn’t play with the team short handed.
He’s been playing good.
He must have a bad attitude or done something to be on Thibs shitlist.
Asik got minutes last year. So I don’t think it’s just a rookie thing. He looks good when he plays. I don’t understand. But maybe Thibs is smarter than all of us (likely). Or maybe Thibs is pissed at him (possible).
other than noah, so when noah is not playing asik is the only one who can really fill the role, after that kurt thomas, boozer, and taj are all a bit ‘small’ for that spot. Thats really why asik got minutes last year
For butler at least korver and brewer are ahead of him ON THE BENCH, while deng is always going to get as many minutes needed to win the game it seems. Its really not that hard to see the minutes distribution, korver and brewer were getting almost 20 minutes each, they might have reduced roles and minutes this year, but they still bring quite a bit to the table and deserve at LEAST 12 minutes (thats just half a quarter each half) a game. When you consider that luol deng and rip IDEALLY should be playing about 35 minutes, thats 94/96 minutes used. IDEALLY….
Obviously dengs been going well over the 35 minute mark, so its easy to see that butler doesnt get burn.
I would say Rip is never going to average 35 minutes even when healthy. He’s just too old to handle it . You can hope for that in the playoffs but even then I doubt it.
With the amount of energy he expends when he is out there
I think you’re better served by limiting his minutes anyway. What’s really important to me is that in the final 3 minutes when Lebron is guarding Rose, Hamilton is available to guard Wade and to take advantage or whatever mismatch or open space is preseented.
“It’s a sprain of his left wrist,” Thibodeau said. “He is day to day. I took him out at the end because he said he needed a break and he went back to have his wrist checked.”
This is an interesting exchange mentioned in the article
“Thibs was just like ‘Try, try everything,’” Noah said. “I went in and got treatment early this morning. Came for shootaround early. Did all the treatment. Tried to just get layup lines and all that, I just had no push. But it will come back quick.”
I’m not going to rehash the Thibs-Rose injury thing again, because I’ve made my case here several times. I just hope Thibs doesn’t burn the players out or unnecessarily push injured guys to return too soon, and instead sees the big picture this season. WIth that said, I can understand that Thibs was likely in a slight panic with Rose, Taj, and JL3 out already, and was probably just hoping Noah could go.
if thibs wanted to push noah into playing, i think noah would be playing. it seems like thibs asked noah to see if he could play (cuz they really do need him) and he couldnt give it a go. Thats what i get from it,
but i guess at gametime decided he didnt want to, his foot probably swelled up a bit or something, or maybe he didnt want to revert back to noah (although now with a legit reason too) while also risking re-injury.
Rose supposedly practiced in the shootaround, but obviously its probably best to rest him as long as possible and get him 100%
Deng sprained his wrist late in the game, he much like noah probably could still play however i think he and the team will decided to sit him cuz theres really no point for him to have a reinjury.
Gibson had a high ankle sprain, so he actually is probably going to be out for a few weeks.
On the radio chuck swirsky mentioned when talking to cj, that cj had said he was actually far from 100% and that the elbow was very sore after every game, but he knows his team needs him out there while rose is gone and so he was gonna continue to play as long as his elbow could hold up. If you look at the padding cj has, i mean, thats a ton of padding…..
The depth might not be as important in the playoffs, but right now our depth is really helping us, its not even about winning our games, the team can literally keep running competetively and so our key guys can actually be told to be patient and heal correctly And thats gonna pay dividends come may
not to take away from the good shorthanded win today. but i am starting to get worried. we're deep, but we aren't infinitely deep, and our key guys are dropping like flies.
I just hope Hamilton, Korver, Watson, and Boozer can hold down the fort.
but I don’t think we could roll the same lineup out there that we did tonight and expect to win. They might have a terrible record, but they have some players on that team. I’d like to see either Rose or Noah out there if at all possible
i guess thats the only thing allowing me to stay relatively postive
is the fact that no one seems to have a really bad injury. Honestly, i think cj has the worst injury on our entire team, i think if monday was a playoff game, everyone would be playing. i think alot of the time off is more to keep the risk of re-injury down.
b-r.com says theyre 11th on offense and 30th on defense. id says thats exactly
the type of team the injury plagued bulls should beat pretty easily, since the bulls can still defend well and their off-ball movement really destroys shitty defensive teams.
just saw this from our friends over at Rufus On Fire
Again, this is pitiful.
Rose is out. Noah is out. Rose and Noah’s replacements, Watson and Asik, aren’t that good. The first two guys off of the Bulls bench, Gibson and Lucas, are out. The Bobcats have had 3 days off, while the Bulls are on the 2nd game of a back-to-back. Getting blown out under these conditions is unacceptable.

i went ahead and added the bold to that sentence. Rofl.
I hate saying this, but there is no way in hell the Miami Heat don't win a title this year
I love this Bulls team, but I just don’t see it. They’re moving the ball so well, they have shooting now with Miller and Battier. Haslem is back. Their defense is fucking ridiculous. It looks like they have 6 guys on the court. They’re just unstoppable. Our only hope really is that Wade comes back and fucks it all up.
But really, it’s only that Lebron’s playing out this of world right now. If he keeps this up for a full season, it’ll go down as one of the best single seasons anyone’s ever had (possibly the best). I mean, seriously, when has a non-big ever shot 56% from the floor for a sustained period of time? If he plays like this in the playoffs, Miami’s winning it all, but Shane Battier and Mike Miller have very little to do with that.
Yeah, it's like everything he flips up goes in. Three's, layups, whatever.
Add to that it seems like every game he has 9 or 10 rebounds or assists, and 3 steals and 3 blocks, it’s just insanity. If that guy had MJ-like drive, I think he’d already have 2 or 3 rings
One problem with us is that I don’t think he fears our team at all. I think those Celtics teams were all up in his head, and that helped them big time.
for a period there the cavs had success againt those celtics teams. i think what eventually
happened is that the celtics were able to psych out and stifle every non-lebron cav to the point where lebron himself finally lost it. those cavs teams were not mentally tough at all, which is one reason why the heat’s chances look so much better. wade, haslem, battier, chalmers, these guys arent scared of anything, and while lebron doesnt seem like the kind of guy who can impart toughness and fearlessness to a team, i do think he is the kind of guy whose confidence thrives when surrounded by gamers.
looking at the boxscore for the miami game, it looks like a big reason philly got beat was iggy. I dont know if the heat just did a great job of shutting him down or what, but he only played 28 minutes, and really didnt do anything but turn the ball over 3 times. Being that he is their main offensive focal point, no question the heat won.
Im very eager to see our team play miami, more so, im more interested to see thibs system vs the miami heat, i dont care if rose or deng or noah play or not, i just wanna see the system, especially on defense, play against the heat….
He pretty much owned Boston in the playoffs until whatever happened between Games 3 and 4 in 2010.
Look at the 2008 Cavs roster, somehow that team took Boston to 7 games and almost won. They were a tougher matchup than Detroit or the Lakers that year.
But Magic was able to rely on Kareem and James Worthy to take pressure off of him. Magic’s USG% never went over 26.3. Lebron’s got a 33.3 USG% right now.
1. Wade/James/Bosh/Haslem+Cole/Cole+Chalmers/Haslem+Battier/etc injury
2. Wade/James not shooting 90% from three with 5 or less on the shot clock in the ECF or Finals
3. Bosh not shooting 95% on jumpers with 2 or less on the shot clock in the ECF of Finals
4. Battier/Cole/Chalmers/Miller missing a run-continuing (or opponent run stopping) on the road
5. The refs stop winning games (sometimes by themselves) for Miami
6. LeBron not getting chase-down blocks
7. Opposing PF’s not fouling out in 10 minutes against LeBron post-ups
how likely any of that is of happening is anyone’s guess and yes, with their athleticism and favoritism from the officials they are the overwhelming favorite. but it is possible they don’t go all the way.
I think you've had an overreaction to a few good games
by calling them unstoppable and saying there’s no way in hell they don’t win. If you play good defense on them, they can be beat. As it turns out, the Bulls play better defense than anyone. The Heat may have the best odds of winning it all, but it’s far from a done deal, with or without Wade.
What the hell has Miami done this year that looks unstoppable compared to how the Bulls have looked. If LeBron, Wade and Bosh were doing what we’ve been doing, everyone in the league would be saying its already over.
Miami and Chicago are headed towards a collision in the playoffs.
Only a lot will happen between then and now (injuries, team improvement/decline, player improvement/decline, trades, perhaps late season pick-ups), so my personal opinion as to who is currently better is:
It is irrelevant therefore so long and thanks for all the fish.
he has good hands on steals, but no jumping for blocks. His effort is now consistent for closing out… but he’s still way too slow. Overall, I’d call him average. But it’s remarkable how much an improvement “average” is from “jesus christ why is he playing pro basketball?”.
The Bulls haven't been injury depleted at the 3 spot
which is what Butler plays. Injuries to Rose, Watson, Lucas, Taj, Noah, and even Hamilton do absolutely nothing to improve Butler’s prospects. He has 3 people ahead of him, 2 of whom play less minutes than they’d probably like.
There is no reason to gripe about Butler’s minutes.. They know what they have in him. Emergency depth who won’t see any meaningful minutes unless multiple people are injured. No matter what he does, he’s not passing any healthy players on the depth chart this year.
so its not accurate to say some minutes have opened up. And I think the reason he doesn’t play is because Thibs does NOT know what he has in him. Extremely short training camp, 2 practices since Dec, no playing time in games – Thibs probably can’t be sure Butler knows the plays. I think that is why he doesn’t play.
The window of being crafty, experienced to out of shape and washed up is pretty short.
To extend it you need to play with enough younger players that you can coast and not be the focal point of the team at all. Celts just never brought in anyone that could do that. I know…the salaries the old men generate make it difficult to impossible. That’s just what happens with a “veteran” team like they have. I liked the old Celtics winners, probably because the Bulls weren’t a rival much to them at all. Makes me think it was a shame a few years ago they weren’t able to bring in a big man to give them a few more years of relevance. It wouldn’t matter now if they did.
I think it’s one or two years at most until they have to blow up the team like the Bulls did after their last championship. Rondo is probably the only starter that will be around. They’ve been fooling themselves to think after being inferior in the playoffs last year that yet another year for older players would somehow make it better.
trading Kendrick Perkins midyear to get young talent at the wing position. Then they tried hard to get Paul before this season, because they knew the needed somebody new to build around. Now, they’ve said they’ll trade anybody on their roster.
One thing i’ll give to Ainge. He’s a realist about how good his roster is, and how urgent it is to shake things up. He saw this coming even when most Celtics fans were willing to keep the roster intact last year.
H’e not Rose caliber. Athletically? Yes. But something is missing. That’s what I can’t figure out. He can go from reckless and stupid to spectacular in the blink of an eye
I actually think Rose landed in a very good situation, which helped him thrive
He had a young and energetic core combined with a few vets, on a team that was not completely atrocious. He also had a coach known as a good communicator with a simple system (VDN has many shortcomings, but he seemed well liked by the players), and he didn’t have the pressure to be ‘the man’ from day one (see Ben Gordon). He also was home and surrounded himself with his family. Basically, Rose was thrust into a situation where he could: learn, grow incrementally, and have support (both via players and family). All this and Rose didn’t fully take off until his third year (and a team redesign).
He flat out can’t shoot jumpers, which makes him extremely limited in the half-court. Even before he expanded his range out to the 3-pt line, Rose was always to hit those 16-23ft jumpers (43% and 44% from that range his first two years, respectively), which meant that you can’t just sag off him all the time or go under every screen.
Wall, on the other hand, is shooting only 22% from 16-23 ft this year. Yet he still takes 5 of those shots per game, go figure. It’s the same problem that Tyreke Evans has. Meanwhile, Kyrie Irving’s lighting the world on fire because he can hit those shots. Sometimes, basketball is a really simple game: you can either make shots or you can’t. Evans and Wall need to spend more time in the gym working on their shots, or they’ll never reach their potential as dynamic number one scoring options.
Bulls winning, and hurt, and Joe Pa dead. Film at 11.

The UC is such a dead building
Incredible considering I know they’re popular as fuck, their games get huge ratings, and there are tons of die hard fans. It’s like when people get in there they just feel like chillin
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
UC noise doesnt translate to tv tho'
I was there for the comeback against the Hawks and the building was LOUD…came home and watched the replay…couldnt tell.
Playboy_BullV - January 21, 2012
you have no idea...no idea
the fans there are a freekin disgrace. I think its those yuppie cubs fans who come to the game.

It’s an advanced metric.

Never understood the bitching about our crowd
games are loud in person, they’re loud in the playoffs, who gives a shit how they sound against the Bobcats?
Stacey_Is_King - January 21, 2012
exactly
sue369 - January 21, 2012
Yeah, it's not like I was expecting an insane crowd for a Bobcats game
but the Scalabrine chants have just really gotten to me. I find the whole thing annoying as hell. That’s more the reason I freaked out a bit. Our crowd is not loud though, I don’t care who we play. And I HAVE been to plenty of games for all the people that wanna come back at me with that.
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
My second year with season tix this season. IMO.
Crowd is very loud for the playoffs…and usually for big regular season games or in the fourth quarter of any close game. Games like tonight, pretty tame. It is what it is, but my guess is that the Bulls crowd is probably on par with the average NBA crowd.
bleigh82 - January 21, 2012
I would actually say it's probably better than the average crowd
simply because they do fill the place every night, but it’s a step below places lie Boston, NYC, OKC, Golden State and maybe a few others that I’m forgetting. You’d just think that with Chicago being a sports crazy place, it would be louder on most nights.
But like I said, it’s really the Scalabrine stuff that bugs me
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
ive never liked the acoustics of the uc
to be honest, i always heard that chicago stadium due to all the wood still used in its architecture had great acoustics, never been so i dont know.
I think its sort of terrible to just gauge how ‘good’ a crowd is just on how loud people are….i think its more important to be loud when the team needs you to be loud, bad calls, close games, etc, as opposed to just be loud the whole game for the sake of public appearance or something.
piccolomair - January 21, 2012
To your last point
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
rebuttle
But in both sections, during big plays, during big moments, during close moments, you feel it in the crowd, this unison desire to Wee-Un
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
honestly, the UC is bigger than any of those you mentioned
and it actually is the physically largest arena in the US (though not largest capacity) – so it’s pretty cavernous and the acoustics, as picc says, aren’t good because of that. it’s tough to get it as loud in there as some places. the garden only has 2 levels and it makes a huge difference.
Jaina - January 21, 2012
Yeah, that's a big part of it
Along with the fact that they have so much other extraneous shit going on with Benny, and the jumbo tron, and playing jock jams over and over, so that has an effect too

Ok ,I'm not even talking about just this game
it’s every game. We have players that play great, but instead of getting cheered off the floor, it’s all “:SCALABRINE”, and to make it worse, the place is usually dead until then, It’s annoying

once rose comes back he and cj will split the minutes like always.
we need a full roster, though, for times like these
Osaka - January 21, 2012
No
From 2007-2011, Mike James was an absolutely worthless basketball player. One good game against Charlotte doesn’t raise James’ standing all that much in my book. Lucas at least had multiple strong performances.

wrigleyrocker12 - January 21, 2012

JustAnotherFan - January 21, 2012
Boozer was trying to get post position there at the end and he did take it strong to the rim--he needs to do that as he is the Bulls best post player
mjtig - January 21, 2012
1)yes
2) ain’t gonna happen. He’s like how Loul Deng was treated when he first got here
KCinIL - January 21, 2012
Deng didn't get any respect here until like, February of last year.
And, just like Boozer, I was one of the only ones defending him.
wrigleyrocker12 - January 21, 2012
Well I'm a Dukie
So I always defend both. Just hate it how Boozer lives and dies by the jumpshot. It’s not just the whole if he misses or hits, but could easily be getting people in foul trouble
KCinIL - January 21, 2012
I wasn't saying you didn't defend either one of them BTW...
And yeah, while I agree with your point about jumpers, what works works, and I also think he’s afraid of getting hurt when he drives.
wrigleyrocker12 - January 21, 2012
Oh I know your not
He better not be afraid, If your afraid of getting hurt, that’s when you get hurt lol. I always said if we wanna get past Miami he’s gotta at the very least start out on the block. But the dude is ballin right now!

Basketball Smurf - January 21, 2012
Why are the Knicks so bad on defense? It's not like they exert any energy on offense watching Melo.
Ozzie Montana - January 21, 2012
Game over.

NY gonna lose another one

Bench everyone? It’s this dumbass schedule. The owners and players union argued for months, changed absolutely nothing and now the fans are paying full price for a mediocre product.
Ozzie Montana - January 21, 2012
Deng was our backup PF this game.
Boozer was our backup C. We have no bigs left. Ronnie Brewer is our backup PF now.
Osaka - January 21, 2012
your new starting lineup:
CJ Watson, Rip Hamilton, Ronnie Brewer, Carlos Boozer, Omer Asik.
Really not that bad.

I love this team.. Go bulls..

piccolomair - January 22, 2012
Yup, looks right
Aren’t they real close to the tax line? I wonder if that might come into play
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
anyone they get
is probably gonna be near the minimum
i like the new nba trade machine feature, it shows how much tax a team owes. right now the bulls owe -796,656, which to me means they are 796,656 under the tax so they can sign someone for the minimum without problem
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
So is that different from the vet minimum?
Meaning, we might still have issues if wanted to bring in someone like Pryzblilla
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
Also, can't the Wolves just freaking cut Brad Miller? They don't need him
Bringing Brad Miller back would make this team the coolest ever assembled
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
i feel brad miller is mentoring kevin love, which i think is the big reason they wanted him
the veterans min is 1.3 million, which would put us about 600k above the tax. It would still be dollar for dollar, and honestly i dont think jr has any reason to not pay that, its such a measley amount. Hell if he really were all that stingy, you could just waive scal, and turn him into an assistant, or whatever
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
Yeah, but if it's between paying a few extra bucks, or keeping Mike James for extra guard depth
James is getting the boot. Sucks. Thanks for the info
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
So if we agree to start you at Center does that mean you'll be able to finish the game?
Sandberg's evil twin - January 22, 2012
Cause I hear Sue has a good hook shot and I don't know if we should sit her.
Sandberg's evil twin - January 22, 2012
these games without rose give us fans purpose to watch
To be honest, im hoping for more closer games, so we can see guys come through in pressure as well without rose.
piccolomair - January 21, 2012
Agreed
It really has gotten to the point where we’re just waiting for the next measuring stick game. Miami in Miami should be a lot of fun
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
thats it. well said, piccolo.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
the best part about it
is that it’s allowed boozer to regain his confidence, and to a lesser degree noah. they were completely on the low end of any of that before basically rose’s injury. after that they have been both tearing it up.
anorexorcist - January 21, 2012

Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
Actually Schenscher is not available
He’s currently playing for the Townsville Crocodiles in the Australasian National Basketball League
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
With a team name like Crocodiles, they have to be like the Lakers of Australia

Townsville Crocs, eh?
“Since being established for the 1993 NBL season, the Crocodiles have enjoyed financial stability and sustained community support, but on-court success has eluded them.”
Not sure what the NBA equivalent of this scenario would be, but I can almost picture this being a Bull Durham type movie, lol.
m0chab34r - January 22, 2012
pretty sure the warriors are the closest to that description.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
Butler with a DNP.
WTF?!?!?
I don’t understand why he wouldn’t play with the team short handed.
He’s been playing good.
He must have a bad attitude or done something to be on Thibs shitlist.
bobslob - January 21, 2012
I think he was a bit unlucky that time
Thibs usually plays him in the last 3 minutes but in this game that was exactly when the Cats did that 10-0 run
JustAnotherFan - January 21, 2012
something seems strange though.
Asik got minutes last year. So I don’t think it’s just a rookie thing. He looks good when he plays. I don’t understand. But maybe Thibs is smarter than all of us (likely). Or maybe Thibs is pissed at him (possible).
bobslob - January 21, 2012
he gets too many fouls...
he reserves him for the right moments and if he has like 4 fouls in the game, hes practically useless.
Geo4MVP - January 21, 2012
look asik is the only other center
other than noah, so when noah is not playing asik is the only one who can really fill the role, after that kurt thomas, boozer, and taj are all a bit ‘small’ for that spot.
IDEALLY….
Obviously dengs been going well over the 35 minute mark, so its easy to see that butler doesnt get burn.
if deng sits, we should see butler
piccolomair - January 21, 2012
oh yeah! butler time!
Geo4MVP - January 21, 2012
Right
This has way more to do with the fact that we already have more than enough guys to fill those minutes.
Juiceboxjerry - January 21, 2012
I didn't realize Kurt Thomas was that small.
I had to check and he is “only” 6’9". Also about 50 years old or something.
I just figured with Deng starting and playing backup pf that the new guy would get to play.
Would Brewer start if Deng is out?
bobslob - January 22, 2012
yea its gotta be brewer
thibs stresses defense so brewer would start for sure, but im sure he would boost korvers minutes by quite a bit to keep him happy as well.
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
yeah, Brewer, KK than Brewer
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012
I agree
And Asik wasn’t an ordinary rookie. He had solid experience overseas
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012
Good points here.
I would say Rip is never going to average 35 minutes even when healthy. He’s just too old to handle it . You can hope for that in the playoffs but even then I doubt it.
Sandberg's evil twin - January 22, 2012
With the amount of energy he expends when he is out there
I think you’re better served by limiting his minutes anyway. What’s really important to me is that in the final 3 minutes when Lebron is guarding Rose, Hamilton is available to guard Wade and to take advantage or whatever mismatch or open space is preseented.
runningman - January 22, 2012
I'm starting to think we should stop voting for the ASG
those guys need to rest
JustAnotherFan - January 21, 2012
Thib's will probably be coaching.
Deng will play 40 minutes if he’s voted in. lol
bobslob - January 21, 2012
Thibs obsession for Deng is crazy
ESPN Chicago
JustAnotherFan - January 21, 2012
This is an interesting exchange mentioned in the article
I’m not going to rehash the Thibs-Rose injury thing again, because I’ve made my case here several times. I just hope Thibs doesn’t burn the players out or unnecessarily push injured guys to return too soon, and instead sees the big picture this season. WIth that said, I can understand that Thibs was likely in a slight panic with Rose, Taj, and JL3 out already, and was probably just hoping Noah could go.
bryield - January 21, 2012
meh
if thibs wanted to push noah into playing, i think noah would be playing. it seems like thibs asked noah to see if he could play (cuz they really do need him) and he couldnt give it a go. Thats what i get from it,
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
keep noah and deng out till wed, sign joel...
let our guys be ready for the crucial road trip coming next week.
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
this guy is like thoses bosses that hate granting you sick leave, no?
Belize - January 22, 2012 via mobile
i was at the UC tonight
i didn’t listen to ESPN on the way home though. any update on Noah/Rose/Deng/Gibson?
i know we’re winning, but we can’t keep that up with three of our four best players, and our 6th man out.
kpd - January 21, 2012
noah was supposed to play
but i guess at gametime decided he didnt want to, his foot probably swelled up a bit or something, or maybe he didnt want to revert back to noah (although now with a legit reason too) while also risking re-injury.
The depth might not be as important in the playoffs, but right now our depth is really helping us, its not even about winning our games, the team can literally keep running competetively and so our key guys can actually be told to be patient and heal correctly And thats gonna pay dividends come may
consider a lineup of
James/Jl3
brewer/korver/butler
korver/butler/scal
boozer/scal
Asik/free agent
that is probably the worst lineup possible right now, and i think it could still compete
piccolomair - January 21, 2012
if we have to resort to that...and it looks like we might in the next game...i just hope Boozer and Korver can pull it out.
The Cavs and Bobcats don’t have any superstar players. The Nets do. And if we’re still this depleted when we play Miami, we’ll lose by 60.
kpd - January 21, 2012
not to take away from the good shorthanded win today. but i am starting to get worried. we're deep, but we aren't infinitely deep, and our key guys are dropping like flies.
I just hope Hamilton, Korver, Watson, and Boozer can hold down the fort.
kpd - January 21, 2012
we still have watson and rip
so we won’t have to resort to that YET…
Jaina - January 21, 2012
exactly, and the bulsl are playing the nets
the bulls need to be careful this week and need to at least get Noah and Deng ready vs the pacers. Let them heal up the next 4 days…
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
I may be misjudging just how bad the Nets suck
but I don’t think we could roll the same lineup out there that we did tonight and expect to win. They might have a terrible record, but they have some players on that team. I’d like to see either Rose or Noah out there if at all possible
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
i know the nets do have some solid players (not named williams)...
brooks, and humphries come to mind. However, I think with Rip, CJ, and Booz and our defense we would still beat the nets.
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
not to rush guys back, but we seem to be losing major rotation guys every day
and i’m starting to fear the announcement that one/some/all of them will be back “after the all star break”
kpd - January 22, 2012
i guess thats the only thing allowing me to stay relatively postive
is the fact that no one seems to have a really bad injury. Honestly, i think cj has the worst injury on our entire team, i think if monday was a playoff game, everyone would be playing. i think alot of the time off is more to keep the risk of re-injury down.
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
b-r.com says theyre 11th on offense and 30th on defense. id says thats exactly
the type of team the injury plagued bulls should beat pretty easily, since the bulls can still defend well and their off-ball movement really destroys shitty defensive teams.
sit everyone out till theyre good and ready.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
Bulls always suck against the Nets
it’s like a Karmic thing
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012

runningman - January 22, 2012

i went ahead and added the bold to that sentence. Rofl.
kpd - January 21, 2012
Such blasphemy regarding Asik.
I have a feeling that Charlotte may have a few storms coming its way, courtesy of the Turkish God of Thunder.
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
I hate saying this, but there is no way in hell the Miami Heat don't win a title this year
I love this Bulls team, but I just don’t see it. They’re moving the ball so well, they have shooting now with Miller and Battier. Haslem is back. Their defense is fucking ridiculous. It looks like they have 6 guys on the court. They’re just unstoppable. Our only hope really is that Wade comes back and fucks it all up.
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
I understand your fears
But really, it’s only that Lebron’s playing out this of world right now. If he keeps this up for a full season, it’ll go down as one of the best single seasons anyone’s ever had (possibly the best). I mean, seriously, when has a non-big ever shot 56% from the floor for a sustained period of time? If he plays like this in the playoffs, Miami’s winning it all, but Shane Battier and Mike Miller have very little to do with that.
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
hes basically adrian dantley crossed with scottie pippen right now.
this version of lebron is pretty awesome to watch. he does everything really, reall well and it all looks so smooth and easy.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
Yeah, it's like everything he flips up goes in. Three's, layups, whatever.
Add to that it seems like every game he has 9 or 10 rebounds or assists, and 3 steals and 3 blocks, it’s just insanity. If that guy had MJ-like drive, I think he’d already have 2 or 3 rings
One problem with us is that I don’t think he fears our team at all. I think those Celtics teams were all up in his head, and that helped them big time.
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
We are ~15 games into the season. I aint crowning anybody
Brigade17 - January 22, 2012
for a period there the cavs had success againt those celtics teams. i think what eventually
happened is that the celtics were able to psych out and stifle every non-lebron cav to the point where lebron himself finally lost it. those cavs teams were not mentally tough at all, which is one reason why the heat’s chances look so much better. wade, haslem, battier, chalmers, these guys arent scared of anything, and while lebron doesnt seem like the kind of guy who can impart toughness and fearlessness to a team, i do think he is the kind of guy whose confidence thrives when surrounded by gamers.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
hmmm
looking at the boxscore for the miami game, it looks like a big reason philly got beat was iggy. I dont know if the heat just did a great job of shutting him down or what, but he only played 28 minutes, and really didnt do anything but turn the ball over 3 times. Being that he is their main offensive focal point, no question the heat won.
Im very eager to see our team play miami, more so, im more interested to see thibs system vs the miami heat, i dont care if rose or deng or noah play or not, i just wanna see the system, especially on defense, play against the heat….
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
id say they lost because of defense and getting completely smoked on the boards.
TheMoon - January 22, 2012
yeah they gave up 54% shooting and were outrebounded by 20
ouch.

JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012
He pretty much owned Boston in the playoffs until whatever happened between Games 3 and 4 in 2010.
Look at the 2008 Cavs roster, somehow that team took Boston to 7 games and almost won. They were a tougher matchup than Detroit or the Lakers that year.

Locust_Inferno_666 - January 22, 2012
Yup Magic was good enough to do it
But Magic was able to rely on Kareem and James Worthy to take pressure off of him. Magic’s USG% never went over 26.3. Lebron’s got a 33.3 USG% right now.
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
I give LeBron respect for easing back on his 3pt attempts...
That has a lot to do with his FG%… he is bringing it back with feel, not with attempts, per se.
inkybreath - January 22, 2012
you give respect to lebron

It is not something I’m proud of!
inkybreath - January 22, 2012
You're silly
tuluse - January 22, 2012
any of these could cost them a championship
7. Opposing PF’s not fouling out in 10 minutes against LeBron post-ups
how likely any of that is of happening is anyone’s guess and yes, with their athleticism and favoritism from the officials they are the overwhelming favorite. but it is possible they don’t go all the way.
kpd - January 22, 2012
Number 5 won't happen
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012
The Bulls have played so much better than Miami this year
What the hell are u talking about?
Option27 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
the bulls also have been more consistent
plus, these past few ones imo are pretty big. Winning with half of ur team injured is awesome.
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
What the hell are you talking about?
We’ve been slightly better, and they beat us in five games in the playoffs last year
Or is this one of those things where I’m not a fan if I don’t think we’ll kick their ass?
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
its going to be a close series...
we all know that. However, i feel more confident bout this team than last yr team. Only thing ill say thats holding us back is health.
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
Yeah, it's not like a think we can't compete
I think we’re the second best team in the league. If we were in the West I think we’d make the Finals.
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
I think you've had an overreaction to a few good games
by calling them unstoppable and saying there’s no way in hell they don’t win. If you play good defense on them, they can be beat. As it turns out, the Bulls play better defense than anyone. The Heat may have the best odds of winning it all, but it’s far from a done deal, with or without Wade.
runningman - January 22, 2012
Exactly what I was referring to
What the hell has Miami done this year that looks unstoppable compared to how the Bulls have looked. If LeBron, Wade and Bosh were doing what we’ve been doing, everyone in the league would be saying its already over.
Option27 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Well, the Bulls were basically unstoppable in the 90's
I don’t get your point. I think the Heat are extremely good, and easily the favorites to win it all. Why is that such a horrible thing to say?
Shit, I hope like hell I’m wrong. I don’t watch all these gd Bulls games for my health
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
I think people take your 'JBJ-style' overreactions too seriously
like when you say there’s ‘no way’ they don’t win the Finals
Stacey_Is_King - January 22, 2012
You're probably right
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
You're probably right
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
exactly, the bulls were very close to beating the heat in each every game last yr
only thing we lacked was offense. This yr team has offense and can come up big in crunch time.
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
Miami and Chicago are headed towards a collision in the playoffs.
Only a lot will happen between then and now (injuries, team improvement/decline, player improvement/decline, trades, perhaps late season pick-ups), so my personal opinion as to who is currently better is:
It is irrelevant therefore so long and thanks for all the fish.
chowder - January 23, 2012

Sam has mercilessly ripped him in his columns
Basically saying there is no chance in hell they would bring him in. I think he has a good feel for that type of stuff, so I’d say it’s unlikely
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
dunno, Sam hates everyone that doesn't behave like a gentleman
He wrote awful things about Rodman and his HoF nomination. I’m not sure the Bulls would do it but Sam’s irrational on those things
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012
the day the Bulls do anything because anybody was once loosely associated with Mike James will be the day Miami clinches the East
kpd - January 22, 2012
I hope I'm not the only one noticing the deep irony of Carlos Boozer being our healthiest starter this year
…as I knock on a shit load of wood.
Locust_Inferno_666 - January 22, 2012
hes just waiting for the rest of the guys to come back
before he goes on his leave of absence…..actually i think boozer wants to win, i think this teams personality is growing on him a bit
piccolomair - January 22, 2012
yeah and i wish people would stop calling him "lazy" or a "dog"
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
yeah I've seen him jump on Defense more this season than last season
he also makes more deflection when he’s in the middle of the zone. He’s still below avg defender, but the effort has improved A lot
trig - January 22, 2012
I would actually dare to call him "average"
he has good hands on steals, but no jumping for blocks. His effort is now consistent for closing out… but he’s still way too slow. Overall, I’d call him average. But it’s remarkable how much an improvement “average” is from “jesus christ why is he playing pro basketball?”.
dantheman3k - January 22, 2012
I wanna know how we are this injury depleted
and yet Jimmy still gets absolutely no time. Give the guy some experience so that we know what we got in him please.
slimshaney13 - January 22, 2012
The Bulls haven't been injury depleted at the 3 spot
which is what Butler plays. Injuries to Rose, Watson, Lucas, Taj, Noah, and even Hamilton do absolutely nothing to improve Butler’s prospects. He has 3 people ahead of him, 2 of whom play less minutes than they’d probably like.
There is no reason to gripe about Butler’s minutes.. They know what they have in him. Emergency depth who won’t see any meaningful minutes unless multiple people are injured. No matter what he does, he’s not passing any healthy players on the depth chart this year.
runningman - January 22, 2012
Well, Deng spent a lot time at PF
so its not accurate to say some minutes have opened up. And I think the reason he doesn’t play is because Thibs does NOT know what he has in him. Extremely short training camp, 2 practices since Dec, no playing time in games – Thibs probably can’t be sure Butler knows the plays. I think that is why he doesn’t play.
Basketball Smurf - January 22, 2012

The Celtics are horrible
How did they get so bad, so fast?
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
Sandberg's evil twin - January 22, 2012
They have no depth anymore and their two best players can't move.
Rondo is a good player but you can’t build a team around him, Allen is a good scorer but he can’t take games over.
Ozzie Montana - January 22, 2012
Good points here.
I think it’s one or two years at most until they have to blow up the team like the Bulls did after their last championship. Rondo is probably the only starter that will be around. They’ve been fooling themselves to think after being inferior in the playoffs last year that yet another year for older players would somehow make it better.
Sandberg's evil twin - January 22, 2012
They've been trying radical moves since last year
trading Kendrick Perkins midyear to get young talent at the wing position. Then they tried hard to get Paul before this season, because they knew the needed somebody new to build around. Now, they’ve said they’ll trade anybody on their roster.
One thing i’ll give to Ainge. He’s a realist about how good his roster is, and how urgent it is to shake things up. He saw this coming even when most Celtics fans were willing to keep the roster intact last year.
runningman - January 22, 2012
Yeah, I tend to think that they were pretty bad last year, but no one noticed because they beat a shit Knicks team in the playoffs
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
Looks like they know they won't win it all so they just don't care anymore
JustAnotherFan - January 22, 2012

nonononononono
H’e not Rose caliber. Athletically? Yes. But something is missing. That’s what I can’t figure out. He can go from reckless and stupid to spectacular in the blink of an eye
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
he lacks body control and doesnt have the instincts like rose on offense
Geo4MVP - January 22, 2012
Wall had none of these advantages.
chowder - January 22, 2012
Oh, I'd say they had pretty similar advantages:
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012

this
Belize - January 22, 2012
I see what you did there
tuluse - January 22, 2012
intentional
chowder - January 23, 2012
It's actually really simple
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
Yeah, that's a great point
That certainly has a lot to do with it.
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
But more than that, it's almost like he's unable to play an NBA game
I’m sure some of that has to do with being young, but with him, it’s like he’s either amazing, or garbage. He doesn’t control the game at all
Juiceboxjerry - January 22, 2012
That's also true
But it’s a lot harder to control the game when your defender always has the option of backing up 3 feet and daring you to shoot.
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
In the transition game, Wall's still as good as just about anyone.
Poloplaya14 - January 22, 2012
No doubt
